Salsa Dance

Salsa – Cuban Style (Casino)
Salsa dance emerged in Cuba in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a time when the country’s rich musical heritage was giving birth to many vibrant Latin dance styles. By the 1920s, these influences had evolved into the modern Salsa dance and music we know today.

Cuban Salsa, also called Casino, is typically danced to Cuban salsa music or timba. Known for its more “street” feel compared to other salsa styles, it blends movements from Afro-Cuban dances such as Rumba and Guaguancó, along with elements from Son and Pachanga. The dance is characterized by intricate arm and body patterns, all woven into a lively syncopated step rhythm.

What to Wear

  • Comfortable salsa clothes or casual attire

  • Women: Shorts or leggings underneath skirts or dresses

  • Footwear: Heels are optional—choose shoes you can move in comfortably

Whether you’re learning the basic steps or mastering complex turns, Cuban Salsa is all about rhythm, style, and connection on the dance floor.
